Suncor’s Raymond Floyd offers reliability advice PDF Print E-mail
Written by Robert Robertson
At MainTrain 2009 in Edmonton, Raymond Floyd, B.Sc., MBA, JD, senior vice-president, Suncor Energy Inc., kicked off the conference with an inspiring and informative keynote address. With a new economy still impacting companies and their maintenance teams, Floyd talked about the changing role of maintenance and the need to raise the bar on reliability.

Floyd said the first step is to determine absolute performance and the sustainable pace of improvement. According to Floyd, it’s also important to engage your workforce and use strategic tools. “To get started, you need clear goals and they have to be set horizontally across the organization,” he said.

Floyd said companies have to create a winning framework that will promote the acceptance of continuous improvement. With an emphasis on boosting production and reducing equipment downtime, he further urged maintenance professionals to fully understand the need for improvement throughout the organization.
