Energy Cranes International Limited, a world leader in offshore lifting and handling services which includes Sparrows Offshore, Aberdeen Hydraulics and Baricon Systems, has announced the appointment of Doug Sedge as chief executive officer (CEO). John Jordan, the incumbent CEO, is standing down from the role and will be leaving the group.

Doug Sedge is well known in the oilfield business community, where he was CEO of RBG Group from 2005 to 2008. His most recent assignment was in a European role with Canadian offshore technology group, Tesco Corporation; his move to Energy Cranes marks a return to global leadership in the energy services sector. His 34 year career in the oil industry has also included senior UK and international roles with Dresser Industries, Dolphin Drilling and US oilfield service giant Weatherford Inc - ultimately as their Vice President for Europe Africa and the Former Soviet Union.

Sedge takes up his position as CEO of Energy Cranes on 1st November. His appointment brings new leadership to a group, which has ambitious long-term growth plans.

“I am excited to be taking over as CEO of the Energy Cranes Group’” says Doug Sedge. “The Sparrows brand, in particular, is one of the great international success stories to emerge from Aberdeen’s involvement in the offshore energy business. The group is a strong business employing excellent people all over the world and I look forward to leading them to the next level of success and growth.”

Robin Pinchbeck, chairman of Energy Cranes, says: “We are delighted that Doug is joining us as CEO: he brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record in building businesses in the offshore energy services marketplace. Under his leadership we will continue to meet and exceed client expectations in the services we already provide, while pioneering new services and technologies and seeking attractive company acquisitions as drivers to our continuing growth.

We thank John Jordan for his commitment to the growth of Energy Cranes over the past four years and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Energy Cranes International Limited, acquired by CBPE in March 2008, is the world’s leading provider of offshore crane engineering, maintenance, operation, rental, design and manufacture services and of lifting training services specific to the offshore oil industry through its trading arms Sparrows Offshore (in Europe, Africa, South America, Asia/Pacific) and Energy Cranes LLC (USA). Subsidiary Aberdeen Hydraulics Limited specialises in the design, supply and support of sophisticated hydraulic equipment and systems for the sub-sea, marine and drilling industries offshore while recent acquisition, Baricon Systems Limited, designs and manufactures subsea cable and pipe spooling and tensioning equipment.
