Province selling land to provide needed industrial space in Fort McMurray PDF Print E-mail
Written by REM Staff
As part of the Government of Alberta’s ongoing efforts to support development in the Fort McMurray area, it is making available two parcels of Crown land in the Southlands area.

“Government is responding to a critical need in this community,” said Ray Danyluk, Minister of Infrastructure. “The region continues to grow and needs more industrial and commercial land to support its development.”

The first parcel of land is approximately 625 acres and is located on the east side of Highway 63 about nine kilometres south of the intersection of highways 63 and 69. It will be sold in its current state as raw land. The land will be marketed through government’s long-standing arrangement with the Alberta Real Estate Association. The first parcel of land will be placed on the market once a realtor is selected in early September.

The second parcel of land is approximately 600 acres and is located south of Highway 69 just south of the airport. The government plans to sell this land in parcels sized to meet a variety of development needs and developers. The land is expected to be listed for sale in early 2011.

This land sale is an important step for growth in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and is consistent with the needs identified in the Commercial and Industrial Land Use Study that was recently adopted by the community. This land sale is part of Responsible Actions, Alberta's 20-year strategic plan for the oil sands, which includes efforts to support further planning and development of vibrant communities in the oil sands regions.
