Take Your Pick: Mining industry has equipment rental options PDF Print E-mail
Written by REM Staff
RSC Equipment Rental unveiled a set of tools and equipment management approaches that have been customized to help the North American mining industry capitalize on its future domestic production. When on-site equipment is needed by companies to operate the mines, the availability of critical supplies is an important factor.

The most frequently rented equipment that RSC delivers to the mining industry includes compressors, generators, all types of aerial forklifts, pumps and welders. In addition, many users are attracted to the inherent advantage of having a third-party stage and maintain the equipment, as well as offer safety training. This streamlining of equipment and services allows the mining operation to focus on what it does best, which is getting precious materials out of the ground and into the market.

In some cases, RSC has even set up dedicated on-site rental stores at some of the largest and most active mines to better service customer needs. And, for many remotely located mining operations, RSC has established a regular schedule of equipment delivery and service to help keep mine operations running smoothly.

Software savvy
For the mining industry, RSC also offers a program called Total Control, which is a software program created to provide a complete range of rental management capabilities directly to users. The program can be used to track RSC's tools and equipment, as well as those owned by the mining company. While the offering is relatively new to the mining industry, more than 120 companies currently use Total Control, including Shell and Exxon Mobile.

"We've found that as many companies ramp up production, they have a hard time getting a firm grasp on their equipment needs and costs across several mine sites," says Pat Lowry, RSC vice-president. "This isn't unlike the challenges companies face in other industries where they must manage work flow across multiple sites in simultaneous operation."
