VIDEO: Oil sands mining, from birth to rebirth PDF Print E-mail
Written by REM Staff
An oil sands mine operates for 30 to 40 years. The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers have presented, in under four minutes, an animation that speeds us through the virtual life of an oil sands mine from beginning to end - from shovels excavating bitumen to the first signs of growth as plants reclaim the land.

"We are Canada’s oil sands producers," the associate says on its Canada's Oil Sands website. "We launched this program last year, listening and responding to what Canadians have to say about the oil sands."

"As Canada's oil sands companies, we know we have more work to do to meet Canadians’ high standards for environmentally responsible development of Canada’s valuable oil sands resource."

The organization says it will continue balancing energy supply, environmental protection and economic development.
