FEATURE: SALARY SURVEY 2012 - Workers see wage increases this year and beyond
Regardless of what is going on in the Canadian manufacturing sector, pay is up (again) and workers are in even more stable positions in their jobs than they were last year. Ten per cent of the survey results came from those involved in mining and oil sands activities, and for those specific industry sectors, the salary average was far above the national average and higher than Alberta's average.

Dependence on the oil sands could end up hurting Canada's economy, report warns
A new report warns of the perils to the Canadian economy of relying too much on the oil sands. The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives study says Canada is heading towards a ''staples trap,'' whereby the more quickly bitumen is exported, the less diversified and productive the economy becomes.
